Hello families and friends,

February is here and with it comes connection, celebration, creativity, and community! We’ve got lots of special moments to share this month — from valentines to family fun and cultural learning.

Black History Month — Honouring Stories & Cultures

February marks Black History Month, a time to honour and learn from the histories, cultures, and contributions of Black communities. Across our Network centres, children and educators are engaging in meaningful experiences: creating art inspired by Black artists, exploring books with diverse characters, and inviting families to share their personal stories, traditions, and experiences. These conversations and activities support children’s sense of identity, belonging, and respect for diversity in our world.

Winter Learning — When It’s Too Cold to Go Outside

Winter doesn’t slow down learning, it just moves indoors! On especially chilly days when outdoor play isn’t safe or comfortable, our educators plan creative and active indoor experiences. These may include:

  • Movement & dance games: to support physical development
  • Indoor yoga or obstacle courses: to build coordination
  • Sensory play stations: with ice exploration, snow-themed art, and storytelling
  • Winter science experiments: that spark curiosity

Through these experiences, children stay active, engaged, and joyful even when the weather isn’t ideal. Indoor winter learning keeps young minds and bodies energized!

Love Is in the Air — Valentine’s Day

This February, our centres are celebrating friendship, kindness, and belonging with fun Valentine’s Day activities. Children are creating handmade valentines, sharing appreciative messages with friends and educators, and learning about caring for others through compassionate play. These simple acts help children build empathy, confidence, and a sense of connection with those around them, the true heart of this sweet holiday.

Family Day — A Special Holiday for Making Memories

February also brings Family Day, a wonderful time to slow down, connect with loved ones, and enjoy fun activities together. In Toronto and the surrounding area this Family Day long weekend (Feb 14–16, 2026), there are lots of exciting options for families to explore:

City of Toronto Events & Free Fun

Many city-run outdoor rinks and indoor arenas offer public skating throughout the weekend including popular spots like Nathan Phillips Square and waterfront rinks. There are also free drop-in programs at recreation centres, swim sessions, and family activities at historic sites.

Cultural & Creative Experiences

Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) hosts Family Day Weekend with hands-on artmaking, guided tours, music, storytelling and more (included in general admission).

Festive & Indoor Fun Options

Kids Fest TO: Family Day Edition   at the International Centre features rides, inflatable fun, live shows and games, a great indoor adventure for all ages.

Other ideas include exploring Riverdale Farm or the  High Park Zoo for a nature outing or visiting museums like the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) for a learning escape.

Whether you’re sliding on ice, creating art, or spending a cozy day together indoors, this Family Day Weekend is a chance to celebrate connection and joy with the people you love.

Thank you for being part of our Network community. We can’t wait to share all of the wonderful February moments with you and your family! 🧡
