February is a month full of excitement and coziness in Canada,
perfect for creating magical memories at our child care centres! With Black History Month and Valentine’s Day around the corner, the children will enjoy plenty of Black cultural crafts and learnings, as well as age-appropriate activities that help children express kindness, friendship, and creativity.
Metamorphosis will be celebrating Black History Month experiences through artistic sensory means, such as skin tone playdough and using combs with different yarn as ‘hair’ etc. Additionally, they will host Valentines Day parties in all classrooms by dressing in red, purple and/or pink, making heart shaped cookies, dancing, arts and crafts, as well as talking about different family structures and how we show love.
Childs Nest 121 will have a Valentine’s day party for all groups, as well have a red, pink and white clothing day.
St. Nicholas will be launching an Anti-Bullying campaign on February 26, “Pink Shirt Day”, by discussing kindness, the importance of anti-bullying and wearing a pink shirt.
Dane Avenue is hosting parents with Black History Month presentations, using books, stories and cultural instruments. Each of the groups at Dane will also have a Valentine’s Day party, with cupcake decorating, exchanging valentines and dancing.
St. Bartholomew will be participating in a variety of Valentine’s Day-themed activities, including chocolate decorating and creating friendship bracelets. For Family Day, the groups will create a family hall where preschoolers will have the opportunity to display drawings of their families.
Jubilee will be hosting a family breakfast for all their families in attendance, in celebration of Valentine's Day and Family Day.
Wade Ave will have a Valentines Day party for all their classrooms by exchanging valentines, wearing red or pink, welcoming parents to bring in valentines day themed treats, and creating a card station for the children to make a card with their families.
