Welcome to February 2021...
As we continue into 2021, we find ourselves in yet another lockdown. Life in Toronto and GTA may look a little different for everyone. Some of us are working from home, helping our children in virtual learning, working on the front lines, or we simply cannot work because of the lockdown. Regardless of your situation, it's important to remain optimistic, and seek assistance when needed.
You can find plenty of helpful resources on our Families page
February is a significant month and has plenty for Canadians to honor, celebrate and reflect. Let's explore the various celebrations February has to offer:
February: Black History Month
Since December 1995, February has been recognized as Black History Month all across Canada. During Black History Month, we celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous nation it is today.
Meaningful ways to honor and celebrate Black History Month include educating oneself about the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians, as well participating in online activities and events celebrating Black History Month. You can find plenty of virtual events at the following:

February 2nd: Groundhog Day
Wiarton Willie is our Canadian groundhog who lives in the community of Wiarton in Bruce County, Ontario. Every February 2, on Groundhog Day, Willie takes part in the local Wiarton Willie Festival. Willie’s role is to come out of his burrow on this day, and if he sees his shadow, he will go back to his den and winter will last for six more weeks; but if he does not see his shadow, spring will arrive early. Whether or not Willie see’s his shadow depends on the weather that day. If it’s sunny, he will likely see his shadow, if it’s cloudy, he will probably not.
Here are some Groundhog Day activities for you to celebrate & enjoy!
February 14th: Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th. On this day, we greet loved ones, close friends, family members, and classmates by sending them cards called valentines. You can also give candy, flowers, and other gifts. Valentine’s Day gifts are often colour in red or pink, with heart shaped designs.
If you would like to create a homemade Valentine’s Day gift, see below printable colouring bookmarks you can make for your friends or family:
February 15th: Family Day
Family Day is a Canadian holiday observed in Ontario (and New Brunswick, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and in British Columbia) and was created to give people time to spend with their families. Family Day is celebrated on the 3rd Monday of February. In 2021 Family Day is February 15.
