Growing Together | Learning Through Every Season

A November Hello!

As the colourful leaves give way to crisp mornings and shorter days, November is a wonderful time to slow down, embrace the changing season, and celebrate the meaningful connections that help children thrive.

Celebrating 35 Years of Network Child Care Services!

This year, Network Child Care Services proudly celebrated 35 years of supporting children, families, and communities.

We marked this special occasion with a celebratory luncheon, bringing together our dedicated staff, affiliated home child care providers, and Board of Directors to recognize the people who have been part of our journey and the impact we continue to make together.

The celebration was filled with meaningful moments, interactive activities, opportunities to reconnect, and plenty of memories. We were pleased to hear heartfelt remarks and reflections from members of our staff and home child care provider community, celebrating the dedication, passion, and commitment that have helped shape Network over the years.

We were also honoured to welcome Kathleen Wynne, who joined us to share a few words and help commemorate this important milestone.

Thirty-five years represents more than just a number. It represents generations of children, families, educators, providers, and staff who have been part of the Network story. It is a celebration of how far we have come and an opportunity to look ahead with excitement to all that is still to come.

To everyone who joined us and to those who continue to be part of our Network community, thank you for helping make these 35 years so meaningful.

Here's to 35 years of growing together, and to many more years of making a difference!

Celebrating National Child Day & World Children's Day

November 20, 2026

November 20 is a special day dedicated to recognizing children's rights, voices, and well-being. In Canada, we celebrate National Child Day, while communities around the world recognize World Children's Day.

The day marks the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognizes that every child deserves safety, care, opportunities to learn and play, and the chance to have their voice heard.

At Network Child Care Services, these principles are reflected in our commitment to creating inclusive, nurturing environments where every child feels valued, respected, and supported.

How can we celebrate with children?

  • Listen to their voices: Invite children to share their ideas, interests, and opinions.
  • Celebrate the right to play: Make time for child-led play, exploration, and imagination.
  • Create a kindness wall: Encourage children to draw or share ways they can show care for others.
  • Read together: Choose stories about friendship, fairness, belonging, and helping one another.
  • Wear blue: Show support for children's rights by wearing blue on November 20.

Let's use this day as a reminder that children deserve to feel safe, heard, included, and celebrated, not just on November 20, but every day of the year.

Learning Through the November Season

As temperatures drop and the days get shorter, there are still plenty of opportunities for meaningful learning and discovery.

Ideas to explore this month:

  • Nature detectives: Collect fallen leaves, observe tree branches, look for animal tracks, and talk about how nature changes as winter approaches.
  • Little scientists: Explore melting ice, frozen water, shadows, and seasonal weather.
  • Creative expressions: Use natural materials, recycled items, and open-ended art supplies to encourage imagination.
  • Storytime connections: Share books about friendship, family, emotions, and belonging, then invite children to connect the stories to their own experiences.
  • Music and movement: Incorporate songs, rhythm instruments, dance, and movement games to keep children active and engaged indoors.

Remember, meaningful learning doesn't always require elaborate materials or planned activities. Often, the best learning moments begin with a child's question, a shared discovery, or an opportunity to explore something new.

Outdoor Play & Seasonal Safety

Outdoor play remains an important part of children's daily experiences throughout the fall and winter months. Fresh air, movement, and opportunities to explore nature support children's physical development, curiosity, and well-being.

As the weather changes, please remember to:

  • Dress children in warm layers appropriate for the day's conditions.
  • Label hats, mittens, scarves, boots, and other personal belongings.
  • Check outdoor play spaces for wet leaves, slippery surfaces, and other seasonal hazards.
  • Adjust outdoor activities to suit the temperature, wind, precipitation, and children's needs.
  • Keep extra clothing available for unexpected weather changes.

Families are encouraged to check that children arrive with the appropriate outdoor clothing each day. Working together helps ensure children can participate comfortably and safely in seasonal activities.
