Thankful Hearts & Spooky Fun
October has arrived, and with it come crunchy leaves, cozy sweaters, and lots of opportunities to celebrate together. At our centres, we’re diving into all the wonderful themes this season brings! Gratitude, imagination, and a little bit of spook-tacular fun!
Thanksgiving: Celebrating Gratitude
This month we’ll be talking with children about thankfulness, what it means and how we can show it. Through stories, crafts, and sharing circles, we’ll explore the little things that make our lives brighter. At home, you might like to ask your child, “What’s something that made you smile today?” You’ll be surprised by the sweet and sometimes silly answers.
Halloween: A Playful Celebration
Halloween is such an exciting time for children, and we’re planning a safe, fun, and creative celebration here at the centre. Costumes, pretend play, and pumpkin-themed activities will all help spark their imaginations.
Helping Your Child Get Ready for Halloween at your Child Care Centre
A few tips to make the day extra smooth and enjoyable:
Choose a comfy costume: Think easy to move in, easy to play in, and safe for busy little ones. (Big masks and long capes often end up on the floor!)
Practice at home: Let your child try on their costume ahead of time and play a few “trick-or-treat” games, it helps build confidence and excitement.
Keep it playful: Introduce Halloween through fun books, songs, or a simple pumpkin craft so it feels friendly, not frightening.
Remember it’s about fun, not fancy: A festive shirt, silly hat, or even painted-on whiskers can be just as magical as a full costume.
Around Toronto This October
If you’re looking for family adventures, the city is full of fall fun:
- Pumpkinfest Toronto at Downsview Park for rides, games, and (of course) pumpkins.
- Evergreen Brick Works farmers’ markets for seasonal goodies and autumn walks.
- Local libraries often host special Thanksgiving or Halloween story times and crafts.
- Downtown Yonge Fall Fest is happening at various locations in Downtown Yonge, including the Fall Maker's Market and the Monster Mash spooky event with DJs and photo ops.
As the month unfolds, the focus at Network’s centres will be on kindness, community, and celebrating the joy of the season. Thank you for sharing your children with us, we are so grateful for the trust you place in us!
Wishing you a cozy, thankful, and fun-filled October,
